The original structure was built in 1850 and served as the gatehouse to Civil War Colonel Butterfield and his mansion just up the hill from this location. In the 1940s, an Italian stonemason was hired to renovate the home….at which time it was expanded and the roof was raised to allow for a second floor with approximately 9-foot ceilings, bringing the house to its present size of approximately 2,600 square feet. The home is a one of a kind construction with 18” granite stone walls, a stone turret and a slate and copper roof.
This house is located in the historic village of Cold Spring, NY on the Hudson River. The house contains three bedrooms, two and ½ baths, living room, formal dining room, eat-in-kitchen, two fireplaces, hardwood floors, full basement, two staircases to the second floor (one in the turret and one at the back of the home), a two car garage with bonus space and a large village lot.
The home is within walking distance of the Hudson River and the Metro North stop, has seasonal Hudson River views and is a five minute walk to over fifty miles of hiking trails
The granite stone garage with mansard roof was built in 2000.
